New SAFed Chairman promotes safety in the workplace

The Safety Assessment Federation (SAFed) has appointed Phil Moore, Head of Engineering at Zurich Risk Services as its new Chairman. SAFed represents the UK independent engineering inspection and certification industry and works closely with leading safety authorities such as HSE, BSi, dti, RoSPA and UKAS.

Phil’s new role, which is scheduled to last for two years, will see him working closely with Richard Hulmes, SAFed’s , Chief Executive. Together, their main aim is to promote safety and reduce the risk of accidents in the workplace. They will achieve this by encouraging high technical standards and competency across the industry.

Commenting on his appointment Phil said “I’m looking forward to taking on this role. SAFed members undertake inspection of most of the plant and equipment in the UK across all industry sectors and public services such as transport, retail and leisure. They detect hundreds of thousands of safety defects, allowing rectification before accidents happen. As such, I believe that our members provide a significant contribution to public safety withinthe UK.”

Phil will working closely with Government and the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) in consultation on the workability and impact of proposed legislation.

Richard Hulmes said ”I am delighted to have Phil as our new Chairman, he has been a long standing and respected member of the Board for many years. One of our key priorities is to build on existing levels of expertise within the market by growing our membership and working with other industry sectors to deliver a consistent message of sensible risk management.

Phil Moore continues “By promoting SAFed and the importance of independent inspection of plant and equipment, we’re improving safety in the workplace. I also want to ensure we build on the existing close working relationship between the Health & Safety Executive and SAFed, to ensure our members deliver a consistently, high quality service to the engineering industry thereby increasing both employee and public safety.”
